Why I want to be a peer mentor: I love STEM and I want to share that realization with others. I chose to become an iCAN peer mentor to help others find enjoyment in the STEM fields while learning to manage the challenges which come along with them. What has helped me be successful beyond school has been reaching out to others to learn about their experiences, choices and paths into their current careers and by taking hands on opportunities to work in the STEM fields from all angles, from research to facilitation. I look forward to learning who my mentees are and helping them find their way to their Dreams.

Why I want to be a peer mentor: I think what creates such a progressive and innovative learning environment here at UCF, is that there are so many amazing opportunities for everyone including those with disabilities and there are porgrams like iCAN that help everyone recognize their goals. All students need mentoring, all humans need someone they know who can help support and guide them. I would love to be that person for someone, within the field that I love, that they could turn to when they are confused about what direction they should take or how they can improve in the current situation that they are in.
Career goals: I am passionate about research and love working on narrow questions to help solve large-scale questions pertaining to important aspects of world, especially climate change. I am planning on pursuing a PhD one day.

Why I want to be a peer mentor: I believe the most challenging part of college is having to adjust. It can feel nearly impossible when someone isn’t around to help you navigate. I intend to be the academic guide and emotional support many individuals seek throughout their undergraduate career.

Advice: Whenever you feel overwhelmed in college, write everything Sou have to do on a list. Then try to remember that everything on that list has a beginning and an end. Whatever you may be struggling with now will end and while you get there try and take each task step by step and one at a time.

Why I want to be a peer mentor: I never had anyone to guide me through my undergraduate degree as my parents never attended college. I would love to be that guide for other students and share the good, the bad and everything in between. I enjoy helping others reach their goals and act as peer support to guide them on their academic journey.
Career goals: I want to work research and development for one of the major government agencies as a chemist.
Advice: If you get overwhelmed just take a step back and go do something you enjoy. Then, pick back up on your school work with a refreshed outlook.
